Tightly Contested Race for Ekiti State Governorship Election (June 2014)
A recent survey conducted for ANAP Foundation by NOIPolls Limited shows a tightly contested race for the Ekiti State Governorship seat between the top two contenders; the Current Governor of the State His Excellency Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose, with just a two percent point gap between the two.
When asked who respondents will be voting for in the coming June 2014 governorship elections in Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose led the list of candidates with 31 percent, while Kayode Fayemi had 29 percent. Mr Bamidele Opeyemi trailed at a third position with 3 percent, while Mr Kola Ajayi received no votes. However, 37 percent of those polled are undecided as to their choice of candidate; and it is believed this proportion of voters would be critical in deciding who eventually wins the coveted seat.
The survey results also show that youths between the ages of 18-29 years are more inclined to vote for Ayo Fayose, while the working class between the age groups of 30-45 and 46-60 are more inclined to vote for Kayode Fayemi.
The survey also shows that almost 8 in 10 eligible voters are registered to vote in the June elections, with about 6 in 10 are absolutely certain that they will vote. The 46-60 years age group leads the majority of those who are absolutely certain they will vote.
